The Kemmer Stock Hybrid Squirrel Dog is an excellent all-around dog, whether you are looking for a hunting dog or a companion for children. It hunts while ranging up to approximately 180 meters (200 yards) away from its handler, fully utilizing its natural instincts. It is a friendly, active, and alert dog. Be sure to assert yourself as a confident, firm, calm, and consistent pack leader; also, ensure the dog gets plenty of physical and mental exercise to prevent unwanted behavioral issues.
The Kemmer Stock Hybrid Squirrel Dog comes in various coat colors: yellow (solid or with white), brindle or blue brindle, reddish, or even black and white; however, yellow predominates, just as it does in its close relative, the Kemmer Cur. It has a sturdy, compact build, with a medium-length coat and a soft undercoat. This breed requires a long daily walk or jog. During outings, the dog must learn to heel—walking beside or behind the person holding the leash—because, to a dog, the leader is the one who walks in front, and that role must be filled by the human.
