The Tonya Finosu is a rare, small Spitz-type dog originating from the Trabzon province in northeastern Turkey. Bred to thrive in the mountainous, humid Black Sea region, it is a loyal and playful family companion, as well as an exceptional and highly vocal watchdog. It is distinguished by a fox-like head, erect triangular ears, and a plumed tail that curls over its back. Highly energetic and alert, it is naturally wary of strangers. Despite its small size, it possesses a strong territorial instinct and raises the alarm by barking loudly at the approach of intruders. Lively and active, it requires daily exercise and mental stimulation. This highly localized breed—rare even in its country of origin—is the subject of active conservation efforts aimed at preserving its unique genetic traits and preventing its extinction. The Tonya Finosu makes an excellent watchdog while remaining an affectionate and faithful family companion. Due to its small size, it is not suited for guarding or deterrence, but its alert temperament makes it a perfect alarm dog. It will not hesitate to bark to warn you if it hears a suspicious noise near the house or sees a stranger approaching. It can also keep watch over farms, where it is sometimes used to hunt rodents.

Thanks to its dense double coat, it is a highly adaptable breed capable of withstanding cold and rain. Provided it has shelter, it can comfortably spend the entire day outdoors, though it is happiest when by its family's side. It forms very strong bonds with its owner and the rest of the household; The Tonya Finosu is known for being a tolerant, friendly, playful, lively, and cheerful companion. If socialized from an early age, it can coexist harmoniously with other dogs. It is also a tolerant and playful companion for children, although a dog—regardless of breed—should never be left unsupervised with a very young child. Do not expect the Tonya Finosu to be a couch potato; it is a rather active and energetic breed, always ready for an outdoor adventure, a walk, a hike, or a jog. They are happiest when they get daily exercise and appropriate playtime. Despite its small size, the Tonya Finosu has a sturdy and highly athletic build. It is a lightning-fast dog with a body shape ranging from square to rectangular. The first thing that will likely strike you about the Tonya Finosu is its fluffy coat. Its coat is always white; this is the only permitted color. It is also a highly functional coat! It is a dense, thick double coat that helps the dog withstand the harsh, rainy, and cold conditions of the Black Sea region, where the breed was developed.
