In tribute to MabroukThanks to Sarah |
Mabrouk, my love, you passed away at the age of 15. You were a German shepherd by profession, your mother's adoration, a valiant heart and an oddball at times! You have left me in mourning, but your soul often joins me! Once upon a time... Mabrouk, the dog of a lifetime! One day when I was volunteering at a shelter, I saw this poor German Shepherd who had been rescued after wandering the countryside for who knows how long... He's got a royal head, secret ears but eyes so fearful, he won't look at anyone. I take him for a walk, cuddle him and that very evening, guess what!... I tell my husband about him, that he's handsome, kind, has been beaten up, fractured ribs, a month in hospital and patatti and patata, I've got him so worked up about it, that a few hours later, we went back to the shelter to see him. But to my horror!!!! a man was holding him on a leash, asking what he could do. My husband approaches him, and begins the best dog adoption discouragement session ever! He eats a lot, needs so much exercise, is too timid... Imagine!!! he wanted a guard for his jewelry store!!!!!! And then, even though my husband had told me "he wouldn't have a dog in the city" (before we moved to the country later), we brought home "clodo molosse" - yes, the shelter had named him that, which says a lot, doesn't it? I immediately named him Mabrouk, not only in honor of Jean-Pierre Hutin, but above all because the name means "a gift for life". Day after day, he relearned how to mix with humans, how to play and even how to play dirty!!!! He was my accomplice and my angel. He came to us at the age of 3 and ended his life with me at 15 in February 2002. Yes, I must admit I miss him terribly, he had an incredible sense of timing, a hoe that could break the most hardened heart. But he continues to be with me every day! He had a dog's life worthy of him! I will always love you Mab!!!! |
