A brief presentation of the Entlebucher Pit

Strong, fearless and hard-working, all best describe the Entlebucher Pit. A newly created hybrid that may have been born within the last 10 years, these hybrids are a cross between the Entlebuch Cattle Dog and the American Pit Bull Terrier. They are considered low-maintenance dogs and can make excellent pets for active owners. The Entlebucher Pit may not be suitable for households with young children or small pets, as it is a strong puppy that can play a little rough. Owners say that with strong leadership and consistent guidance, the Entlebucher Pit is a good companion, but is not recommended if you're looking for your first dog.

History of the Entlebucher Pit

The popularity of specific dog breeds has increased in recent times, leading to the development of many new types of dog. The history of the Entlebucher Pit begins with the creation of the parent breeds.

A little of the Entlebuch Cattle Dog

The Entlebuch Cattle Dog is thought to have originated in Switzerland over 2000 years ago. This breed was originally conceived as a class of shepherd dogs that worked vigorously in the mountains and hills. Excellent as livestock herders and guardians, the Entlebucher Cattle Dog is part of the Mountain Group like the Bernese Cattle Dog, Appenzeller Cattle Dog and Great Swiss Cattle Dog. The breed is very popular in countries such as Switzerland, New Zealand and Australia. In 2011, the American Kennel Club officially recognized the breed, classifying it in the Breed Group.

A little of the American Pit Bull Terrier

The American Pit Bull Terrier, more commonly known as the "Pitbull", is a terrier-type dog breed. In France, the American Pit Bull Terrier is not recognized as a breed, but as a type of dog. Any crossbreed that is morphologically close to it is considered a pit bull, including non-pedigreed American Staffordshire Terriers and crossbreeds. The United Kennel Club (UKC) was the first kennel club to recognize this. Its founder, C. Z. Bennett, assigned UKC registration number 1 to his own American Pit Bull Terrier, Bennett's Ring, in 1899. From then on, no further crosses were accepted.

Appearance of the Entlebucher Pit

At first glance, the medium size, thick frame and muscular build best describe the Entlebucher Pit. These hybrids tend to have medium-length muzzles, broad shoulders, slender bodies and alert eyes. They come in a variety of colors, including tan, black and white, have a variety of markings, and the markings are often more patchy. Ears can be fully folded back or partially folded back, eyes can be set far apart on the skull, and tails can be strong and of medium length. The coat will be dense and most likely smooth.

Temperament of the Entlebucher Pit

An intelligent and cheerful companion, the Entlebucher Pit is a loyal, protective and energetic breed of dog that can cope very well with children and other pets when supervised. As these dogs are quite large, they can sometimes unknowingly be rough with small animals and young children. In addition, some Entlebucher Pits can become stubborn or bossy and may not tolerate children who irritate them too much. Socialization and training from an early age are the best tools for managing your dog's temperament. With foreigners, keep in mind that these breeds originate from dogs that tend to guard or protect owners or flocks. Your Entlebucher Pit hybrid can be quite wary of strangers and may tend to bark at them.

Needs and activities of the Entlebucher Pit

The Entlebucher Pit comes from a relatively active breed of sheepdog known as the Entlebuch Cattle Dog. This parent breed tends to have higher energy requirements than the American Pit Bull, as they were bred to run for miles. The parent American Pit Bull Terrier adds the desire for energy expenditure in the form of rapid acceleration, so recreation in a secure enclosed space will be welcome. Your hybrid will need a minimum of two walks a day for at least an hour a day, and the Entlebucher Pit could even accommodate more. Not all dogs are competent running partners, keep this in mind because of the influence of the American Pit Bull. Its stamina is not the same as that of the Entlebuch Cattle Dog's parent.

Maintenance of the Entlebucher Pit

The Entlebucher Pit is a low-maintenance dog, with a relatively short, dense coat that only needs brushing with a soft bristle brush once a week. These hybrids won't need to be bathed often, perhaps once a month or once every 2 months. For the most part, owners can use dry shampoo or a damp cloth to clean their hybrids. As with all dogs, general maintenance requirements include ear cleaning every 4 to 6 weeks or as recommended by a veterinarian, teeth cleaning every few days and nail trimming as needed, with an active dog he can wear down his nails naturally.
