Appearance of the French Bullhuahua
Although every dog is different and the breed is still in its infancy, most French Bullhuahua are quite recognizable for what they are. As a general rule, they will be more muscular and solid than the Chihuahua and are always a little taller. The dogs have rounded, relatively large skulls, with prominent erect ears set wide apart. Their melancholy eyes are circular and occupy the center of their adorable faces. They are dark brown and can give some dogs a dark appearance. Their muzzle may be snubbed like that of the French Bulldog or slightly longer than that of the Chihuahua. Some dogs will have facial folds, but these tend to be much less visible than in pedigree French Bulldogs. Tails are highly variable and can range from a short stump to a long, narrow whip. The French Bullhuahua is incredibly compact and much less refined and elegant than the Chihuahua. Dogs can weigh from 4.5 kg to 13 kg and generally measure between 15 and 30 cm at the withers. The French Bullhuahua's superb coat is short and straight, and comes in a variety of colors and patterns. With coats ranging from black and brown to brindle and white, the possibilities are endless, and it's normal for puppies from the same litter to have several different coat colors. |
Temperament of the French Bullhuahua
Anyone who doesn't fall in love with a French Bullhuahua after seeing one is sure to become a convert after spending time with these wonderful souls. Full of mischief and adventure, it's hard to be grumpy in the company of a French Bullhuahua. A social and affectionate dog, these guys will fit in with any family. However, they can become overly attached to people and need attention and companionship most of the day. Some dogs can become overly protective of their territory and family, which can be frustrating once guests have left. The French Bullhuahua has the potential to get along well with all people and animals, but requires intensive socialization from an early age to avoid any wacky or aggressive tendencies. |
Needs and activities of the French Bullhuahua
As a small dog, the French Bullhuahua doesn't require much exercise. He may have little energy, however, and there's no doubt he'll enjoy a walk around the neighborhood once or twice a day. His trips to the dog park will give him the opportunity to work on his social skills with both humans and dogs. The French Bullhuahua can be sensitive to temperatures, so if it's too hot, don't allow him to exert himself too much, especially if he has the brachycephalic facial features of the French Bulldog. This characteristic means he may have trouble breathing if he's too hot and out of breath. |
Maintenance of the French Bullhuahua
The French Bullhuahua will have a short coat and won't shed much, requiring minimal maintenance. A smooth brush will be the ideal tool, gliding over your hybrid's short, smooth coat and removing any loose fur. Swimming isn't a problem, unless your dog likes to play in the mud, and even with that, a pet wipe will work very well to clean the fur. Like all small dogs, the French Bullhuahua will require a fairly regular teeth-cleaning regime. Teeth, being small and often crowded in the mouth, should be brushed every day if possible. If you start this part of the routine at an early age, your French Bullhuahua won't mind at all. Nails should be trimmed every few weeks. |
