The Cierny Sery should look natural, never like it's been prepared just for the show. The thin double coat should be abundant, but never look as if it inhibits the dog's ability to work. The texture should be hard and dense, never woolly, silky, frizzy, fine or nervous. The undercoat should be thick and abundant.

Her bloodlines include Belgian Shepherds, Old German Shepherds and Schnauzers. Mrs. Zdena Seryova is one of the breed's founders.

It exists in 3 types :
Short - double coat.
Long - double coat, long coat on ears, legs and tail.
Rough - rough double coat, mustache and beards on chops. The color is always black, with small white and brown markings permitted.

The Cierny Sery should be athletic, strong, imposing, elegant and balanced in appearance. Loves people and children. This dog is good for all types of work, including service dog work. It is a sensitive breed and cannot be trained using harsh training methods. Do not treat this dog as if it were human. Learn canine instincts and treat the dog accordingly. To be truly happy, the Cierny Sery needs a task in life and a consistent pack leader.

Generally speaking, this is a healthy breed.

The Cierny Sery does well in an apartment if sufficiently exercised. They are relatively inactive indoors and do best with at least one large yard.

The Cierny Sery likes intense activity, preferably combined with training of some kind, as these dogs are very intelligent and need a good challenge. They need to be taken out daily, going for long walks, jogging or running alongside you when you ride your bike. If underexercised, this breed can become restless and destructive.

This breed needs thorough grooming once a week. However, during molting (which occurs once or twice a year), they shed massive amounts of coat and need daily grooming.

Height at withers for males from 59 to 67 centimeters, and for females from 56 to 62 centimeters.

Weight : 25 to 30 kilos for males, 20 to 25 kilos for females.
