The Brazilian fox (Lycalopex vetulus) is an endemic Brazilian species of the genus Lycalopex.

It is a slender animal with a relatively short, pointed muzzle and large ears. It mainly inhabits Brazil's Cerrado ecosystem, although it can also be found in transitional habitats.

This animal is omnivorous, but generally feeds on termites, dung beetles, other insects and small vertebrates.

The kit fox has a short muzzle, small teeth, a short coat and dark stripes on the dorsal surface. Its tail is black at the tip, and its throat is darkly marked along the dorsal line. Its ears and the outside of its legs are reddish or tawny. The upper part of the body is gray, while the underside is cream or buff.

The animal weighs between 2.7 and 4 kg, with a tail length of between 28 and 32 cm. Body length from head to tail is 58-64 cm.

It is most active during the day.

This species of fox lives in South America, in open woodlands, scrublands, high mountain plateaus, and savannahs with plain surfaces or dotted with trees.

Females of this species usually give birth to two or even four fox cubs. They usually breed in autumn.
