Epileptic seizures

Epilepsy is a disease which, as in humans, leads to a number of neurological manifestations: convulsion, loss of consciousness, neurovegetative disorders (salivation, micturition, defecation).

Epilepsy is difficult to diagnose. Many other causes, such as metabolic disorders or brain damage (trauma, tumour), can lead to similar symptoms.

It is therefore generally necessary to carry out additional tests (blood tests, skull X-rays).

Once the diagnosis has been established with certainty, treatment is twofold:
- Background treatment with neuroleptics, whose dosage is gradually adjusted.
- Treatment of seizures, generally with intra-rectal valium.

Repeated epileptic seizures can only get worse.

It's important to be aware of the circumstances that trigger seizures (excitement, heat, irritation, etc.), so as to avoid them.
