The village of Beaubois

Once upon a time, at the edge of a beautiful wood, there was a small village called Beaubois.
In this village lived a multitude of dogs.
They came in all sizes: large, medium, small and even very small.
All breeds and colors: blacks, browns, whites, beiges and even all these colors mixed together.
Some had spots on their noses, tails, legs or bodies.
Some had only three legs or one ear, but they were all very happy to be living in such a splendid place.
They had arrived here by chance, no one knew why or how they had ended up here, but the most important thing was to be here and to feel good.

The landscape was marvellous.
In the middle of the village ran a stream of such pure blue that all the dogs were fascinated by its beauty.
They could drink from it, swim in it, play in it and romp in it.
The grass all around was a sublime green.
The puppies loved to chew on it, so tender was it.
In the sky, there were never any threatening clouds, only pretty little white clouds that looked so soft.
The sun shone brightly, its rays warm but never burning.
The temperature was just right.

Each dog had its own house, which resembled a large kennel.
It was made of wood, and the floor was covered with a thick, soft, comfortable carpet.

In front of each house was a large bowl filled with chewing bones: a real treat.

Every now and then, a magnificent rainbow would appear and an elderly person, an adult or even a child would appear in the distance.
Tails would wag, ears would perk up, hearts would pound, and then a gentle voice would call out the name of one of them.
It often happened that several dogs were called at the same time.
At the call of its name, the dog would then join the person, making great strides.
Most of the time, this person was the owner whom the dog had had to leave too soon.
The reunion between master and dog was a time of great joy for the entire Beaubois community.

Occasionally, a child would enter the village and come to pet a particular dog, always an animal that had received no love or had no master before arriving in the village.
When the child left with the dog, everyone was even more delighted.

Every dog, without exception, would eventually find a master worthy of the dog's trust.

It was truly paradise.
