A brief presentation of the Smooth Chisoxy |
The Smooth Chisoxy is a hybrid dog by design. It is derived from the Fox Terrier Smooth and the Chihuahua. It's a very small dog - some would even classify it as a toy. It usually measures just 23 to 25.5 centimeters and weighs between 4 and 4.5 kilos. Their small size makes them unsuitable for small children. They excel in their role as companion dogs. This little dog loves attention. He can become protective of his master and think he's a big dog in a little dog's body. If you let him do whatever he wants, he'll think he's king of the house. He's the ideal pet for an elderly person. Its small size makes it an excellent apartment dog. |
History of the Smooth Chisoxy |
The Smooth Chisoxy is a rare hybrid. He's the perfect blend of his parents, the Fox Terrier Smooth and the Chihuahua. |
A little of the Fox Terrier Smooth |
||
The roots of the Fox Terrier Smooth go back to 17th-century Britain. Its ancestors are thought to be related to the Beagle, Greyhound, Black and Tan Terrier and Bull Terrier. These dogs all offered skills and characteristics that made the Fox Terrier Smooth a champion hunter. This dog was used by farmers to hunt small vermin and parasites such as foxes and rats. He would boldly venture into his prey's den and chase the creature away. Once outside, the Fox Terrier Smooth would promptly kill it. The American Kennel Club recognized the Fox Terrier Smooth in 1885 in the Terrier group. | ||

A little of the Chihuahua |
The Chihuahua is a big dog in a small package. It originated in Mexico and is more than likely a direct descendant of the Techichi, a dog that was bred by the Toltec civilization. The dog is thought to have resided in Central America for over 2,000 years. They were often bred as food and for use as canine hot-water bottles. The small dog would lie down next to a sick person to transmit its soothing body heat. They were also thought to have spiritual utility in helping the deceased pass peacefully to the other side. The American Kennel Club registered the dog in 1904 as a small breed. Today, the Chihuahua is a much-loved pet and companion. |

Appearance of the Smooth Chisoxy |
The Smooth Chisoxy is a tiny dog and is the perfect size for snuggling up in its owner's lap. Its soft, smooth coat is similar to that of the Fox Terrier Smooth and the Chihuahua. The coat is thick and a little rough to the touch. It has long ears that stand up or flop at the tips. Its small face resembles that of a fox, and its eyes are very alert. It comes in many colors: black, brown, tan, white, cream and bicolor. Its small body is lean and muscular. This little dog loves to eat, and is often overweight if it doesn't get enough exercise. |
Temperament of the Smooth Chisoxy |
The Smooth Chisoxy often thinks he's the head of the family. He loves attention. Owners must be very careful not to spoil this little fellow. Care should always be taken when introducing Smooth Chisoxy to children, as he can be a bitter biter. He's very intelligent and has a pronounced stubborn streak. This little fellow doesn't always like other pets. It's not unusual for him to try to pick a fight with a much larger dog. He is very affectionate towards his master and extremely loyal. |
Needs and activities of the Smooth Chisoxy |
This little dog can be a real ball of energy. He loves to play and go for walks. He's lively and full of energy. However, he also loves to snuggle. Care must be taken when taking this little dog to a dog park, as it can be aggressive. He's a barking little dog who often barks as soon as he hears a noise or sees a stranger. Owners should be careful not to let this little dog off-leash, unless it is properly trained, as it will often see a squirrel or bird and start chasing it, its natural hunting instinct kicking in. |
Maintenance of the Smooth Chisoxy |
The Smooth Chisoxy's smooth coat is easy to care for. A simple brushing will remove stray hairs and keep its coat shiny and neat. You can also wipe him with a warm, damp washcloth to remove any dirt build-up on his coat. Once a week, you can wipe his ears to rid them of any debris that may have accumulated. Most owners trim their dog's nails once a month if regular activity doesn't wear down the nail material sufficiently. Brushing teeth every other day helps reduce plaque build-up and prevent gum disease later in life. |
