The Cobberdog was derived from the authentic Australian Labradoodle strains and was officially recognized as a pure breed under development in January 2012 by the Global Breers and Associates (MDBA) registry. The Australian Cobberdog is good with children and easy to train. They get on well with other dogs. He is extremely intelligent, sociable and cheerful, and quick to learn unusual or special tasks. Active, with a goofy comic nature, he loves to make people laugh. He may try to outwit his master if unruly. It's very important for you to be this dog's firm but calm and steady pack leader, and to provide him with daily mental and physical exercise to avoid behavioral problems. Friendly, but obviously loyal to his own family, this dog is non-aggressive. It is known for its intuition, which makes it particularly suitable as a therapy dog, medical alert dog and service dog, the purposes for which it was developed. This breed has been meticulously tested for DNA health for generations with carriers of known diseases removed from the breeding programs of MDBA-registered breeders. MDBA registration of breeding dogs requires DNA identity profiling and DNA clearance of diseases that have appeared in the breed, including PRA-prcd. An annual blood test for Addisons disease is recommended for breeding dogs. The Australian Cobberdog will do well in an apartment if it gets sufficient exercise, both mental and physical. Mental stimulation is essential, and close human contact as a true family member will prevent overactivity and the need for excessive exercise. This breed will benefit from a long daily walk. It doesn't need as much exercise as its ancestors, the Australian Labradoodle. Mental exercise, close family contact, early training and moderate exercise will keep them happy. Curly coats need regular grooming with a smooth brush at least every two weeks and perhaps two to three times a year, a trim, scissors or clippers to keep tidy. The properly bred Australian Cobberdog has no hair, but rather a woolly coat that doesn't shed and is allergy-friendly in the majority of cases. If a person has an allergy to dog saliva, this breed will have no particular advantage in triggering allergies. Standard : Height at withers from 53 to 60 cm, weight from 20 to 27 kg for females and from 25 to 35 kg for males. Miniature : Height at withers 40 to 45 cm, weight 11 to 16 kg. There is no appreciable difference in size between males and females. |
