| The Azusayama Dog is an ancient and rare line of the traditional Shiba Inu, originating in the high-altitude forests and mountainous regions of Nagano Prefecture (formerly in the Shinshu region) in Japan. It belongs to the Shinshu line group, which also includes the Mikawa Inu and the Kawakami Inu. Historically used as a hardy working and hunting dog for tracking small game in harsh alpine environments. An ancient and primitive type of Shiba Inu that retains strong hunting instincts, great agility, and remarkable endurance. Extremely rare today, as modern standardized Shiba Inus are largely descended from a mixture of regional lines. selected, leaving traditional pure breeds like the Azusayama very localized or almost forgotten outside of niche preservation efforts. |
