This breed is also known as			Mikawa Inu Mikawa Ken Aichi Dog

The Mikawa Dog is a Japanese breed of dog originating from Aichi Prefecture. Also known as the Sanshu Dog or Mikawa Cross Dog, it is a Japanese-type breed resulting from a cross between the Chinese Shan Dog (a short-haired Chow Chow) and the Korean Nurongi. It is characterized by its prominent ears and curled tail. Originating from Aichi Prefecture (formerly called "Mikawa Country"), it is a ground-hunting dog. Long used as a herding dog, it has also served for hunting large game and has been a valuable companion for hunters. It often has a cross-shaped or round marking on its forehead, and its coat can be red, sesame, black, etc. Its ears are erect, its tail is curled, and its character is loyal and it is difficult to separate it from its owner. Its winter coat is used in ceramic painting. Long extinct in their pure form, only a few dog breeds remain. The near extinction of Japanese dogs between the Meiji and early Showa periods is partly explained by crossbreeding with Western dogs and the breeding of fighting dogs, but the influence of the Mikawa dog was also significant.
