| The Soneri Kutta is a rare and endangered Indian breed of dog, originating in Uttar Pradesh. Used for herding water buffalo, this medium-sized, muscular, and usually black dog is renowned for its swimming agility and its independent, aloof, and sometimes stubborn temperament. A good watchdog, it is often considered a protective breed. The Soneri Kutta originates from the northern Indian states of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Historically, farmers used it to round up water buffalo along the Sone River. An excellent swimmer, it can swim for hours. Active, athletic, and robust, it is ideal for work. Known for its stamina and boundless energy, it is also very loyal, vigilant, and protective. However, its loyalty is usually reserved for one person. A quintessential working dog, it is perfect for fieldwork and adapts well to rural life and farm life. Later, they were used as guard and herding dogs. Soneri Kuttas are territorial, dominant, aloof, and reserved, making them excellent watchdogs. They are also loyal and protective of their family. It should be noted that Soneri Kuttas tend to be aggressive toward strangers, and their territoriality sometimes manifests as aggression toward other dogs. |
