| The Sanshu was developed in 1912 in Japan and is not recognized by the AKC/FCI. It is believed to have originated from a cross between the Japanese Aichi (an ancient breed) and the Chinese Chow Chow. This robust dog resembles a small Akita. The larger varieties stand 51 to 56 cm at the withers, while the smaller ones stand 41 to 46 cm and weigh between 20 and 25 kg. There is also a smaller variety measuring 41 to 46 cm. Its head is triangular with a pointed muzzle. Its cheeks are prominent. Its eyes are almond-shaped and dark. Its ears are small, triangular, and erect. Its coat is short and harsh. Its color can be red, gray, fawn, white, piebald, black and tan, or pepper and salt. The Sanshu is very popular in its native Japan. This is a robust dog that closely resembles a small Akita or a large Shiba Inu, but with a less curled tail. Its coat can be red, fawn, white, gray, light fawn, or piebald. The Sanshu is used as a guard dog and companion. The breed has never been officially recognized. The Sanshu is a sensitive dog, eager to please. Its training should be gentle and kind. Very affectionate, it forms close bonds with its family. The Sanshu is an extremely clean dog and very loyal to its owners. An excellent guard dog, it is, however, primarily valued as a companion. |
