The Ceylan is a cat breed originally from Sri Lanka.
This medium-sized cat is characterized by its ticked tabby shorthair.

A brief historical overview
It was an Italian, Dr. Paolo Pellegatta, who in 1984 discovered half-wild ticked cats (like the Abyssin) in Sri Lanka (formerly Ceylan). With the help of the director of the Colombo zoo, he brought six of them home to Italy. He then began a breeding program, and the breed met with success among the Italians, but was not yet established.
In 1988, a Ceylan club was founded, and that same year he brought five generations of Ceylan to a FIFé show, along with documents showing them in their natural environment. However, it wasn't until 1993 that the breed was recognized by the FIFé.
Today, the Ceylan is still a very rare breed and is not recognized outside Europe.

Behavior / characteristics
The Ceylan is generally described as a sociable cat, adapting well to life in an apartment and easily trusted by its owners. Character, however, depends on the history of each cat, regardless of breed.

Head
 In the shape of a rounded triangle, the head is of medium size.
Skull
 Viewed from the front, the skull is slightly rounded, with prominent cheekbones.

Facial region
Forehead
 Viewed from the side, the forehead is flat and continued by a concave line at the birth of the nose, which does not, however, mark a stop.
Nose
 Short nose.
Muzzle
 Slightly rounded, the muzzle gently terminates the triangle of the head.
Eyes
 The upper eye line is straight and slightly slanted toward the nose. The lower line is rounded. Fairly large, eyes range from green to yellow.
Ears
 Medium to large in size, the ears are broad at the base, with rounded tips. Set high on the head, they are close together. Lynx tips and a lighter thumb mark at the back of the ears are appreciated.

Neck
Fairly long and graceful, the neck clears the head well from the shoulders.

 Medium-sized and semi-cobby, the body is compact. Muscles are powerful and bone rather fine.

 The belly is rounded.

Limbs
Of medium length, the legs are rather fine-boned.

 Hind legs are higher than front legs.

Coat
Coat and texture
 Short, fine and silky, the coat has almost no undercoat. Ticking (alternating light and dark stripes on each coat) is most pronounced on the chest, back and flanks.

 Male height at withers: between 22 and 24 cm.
Female height at withers: between 22 and 24 cm.

 Average adult male weight: between 3 and 5 kg.
Average adult female weight: between 3 and 5 kg.

 Round eyes.

 Lack of uniformity in eye color.

Refusal of any title
 Oriental type.
 Medallion and white spots.
 General faults and defects eliminatory in show.
