A brief presentation of the Smooth Toy Foxter
The Smooth Toy Foxter is a small dog with a big personality, and the active lifestyle typical of the Terrier breed. Crossing the Fox Terrier Smooth with the Toy Fox Terrier retains the personality of the Fox Terrier, but in a smaller size thanks to the influence of the Toy Fox Terrier. The Fox Terrier Smooth is curious, alert and robust for its size. Coming from a working dog background, he retains his hunting instinct and will pursue mice and small animals. It's a good idea to keep this lively little Terrier on a leash when out for a walk, in case something catches his eye and causes him to pounce. In this case, he tends to practice selective hearing and all your commands will fall on deaf ears. Their small size is perfect for any home, whether it's a house with a fenced-in yard or a small apartment. The Smooth Toy Foxter is adaptable and will fit into any home as long as you're there with him. These are highly intelligent dogs, who learn very quickly. Eager to please, they can learn new tricks easily. Adorable and loyal, this happy dog will be fun to be around and make an ideal family pet. As a small dog, it can be easily injured, so teach children to handle it with care, especially when it's a puppy. Apart from that, this cheerful little dog is sure to make life a lot more fun.

A little of the Fox Terrier Smooth

         
The Fox Terrier Smooth is just a (slightly) larger version of the Smooth Toy Foxter. It is one of the oldest Terrier-type dogs, originating in the British Isles in the 17th century. The Fox Terrier was originally developed by crossing with the Dachshund, and later with the Fox Hound and Beagle. The Fox Terrier was a working dog, enthusiastically engaged in eradicating rats, foxes and vermin that harmed farmers' livestock. The Fox Terrier would find the animal in the ground and dig it out, barking and darting towards it to hunt and kill it. The Fox Terrier came in two different coat styles, Wire Fox Smooth and Wire Fox Rough, and both were considered the same breed for many years. The hardier wirehaired dog was used in harsher regions where its more resistant coat could withstand the climate. The standard for the Wire Fox Terrier Smooth was established in 1876, separating it from wire-haired dogs. Kennel clubs still debate whether it's the same dog, but a variation in coat. But the American Kennel Club recognized the Fox Terrier Smooth in 1885. Known for its ability to hunt, track and excel at agility and tricks, this attractive little dog is a popular companion and a tough, big-hearted character.

A little of the Toy Fox Terrier
The Toy Fox Terrier has been around for a long time, probably almost a century. It was first known as a small farm working dog, used to control rats and vermin in barns and grain stores. It was developed by mating the smaller, Fox Terrier Smooth with several other toy breeds to achieve a smaller stature. Breeds such as the Chihuahua and Manchester Terrier were used to reduce the breed's size. However, breeders found that the characteristics of these smaller Terriers didn't suit the dog they were trying to get, so they went back to breeding only smaller Fox Terrier Smooth. The first Toy Fox Terriers were registered in England in 1936, then in the USA in 2003. A typical Terrier, the Toy Fox Terrier is appreciated as a companion dog, but retains the strong hunting instincts of its professional past and will chase anything that moves. This miniature version of the popular Fox Terrier has a devoted group of followers, and is popular in the small dog category because of its feisty personality.

Appearance of the Smooth Toy Foxter
The Smooth Toy Foxter is an attractive little dog with a well-proportioned, athletic body. Built for speed, this little dog has a deep chest that gives him plenty of oxygen for all his runs, and his slender legs and well-padded paws enable him to move quickly and turn around in an instant, ideal characteristics for a Terrier. A muscular neck supports the slender head. The top of the head is slightly rounded, and the large, pointed ears are set wide apart and erect. The muzzle is long and pointed, with teeth that end in a scissor bite. Round, sparkling eyes, deep in color but sparkling with mischief, guarantee that this dog doesn't miss a trick. He looks happy with a broad smile and hanging tongue. His short, docked tail is carried high and proud. His coat is short, dense and has a white base with patches of color like black, tan or red. Attractive, intelligent and very affectionate, the Smooth Toy Foxter will make you laugh at all his tricks.

Temperament of the Smooth Toy Foxter
The Smooth Toy Foxter can be described as lively, energetic, happy and young at heart, highly intelligent and affectionate. It's a loyal dog and an excellent companion, adapting to most living environments. Athletic by nature, they get plenty of exercise following family members around the house and playing with them and their toys. They still possess the old Terrier skills and instincts, and will chase small creatures, from mice to the neighbor's cat, and so need to be watched. Because of this instinct, they need a secure yard or to be kept on a leash when out walking. This dog needs a leader, someone he can respect, otherwise he may try to get the upper hand, and that's when life can get difficult with a dog who whines, barks and tries to control his fellow dogs. Children need to be taught to be gentle but firm with the dog, so that he sees them as leaders too. The Smooth Toy Foxter responds exceptionally well to training, especially if it's fun and challenging. This allows them to use their skills and mental abilities, making them well-balanced dogs adaptable to most climates and housing situations. They are well suited to small homes or apartments, provided they get their daily walk. This exercise time is important for your dog to socialize and burn off some of its energy, and it's also essential time with you as a companion. Loving and loyal, small enough to snuggle in your lap, and with a happy-go-lucky attitude, this little companion is worth his weight in gold.

Needs and activities of the Smooth Toy Foxter
Smooth Toy Foxter may be small, but he has the energy of several dogs combined. He needs a daily walk to burn off some of that energy. Walk him on a leash to prevent him from chasing small creatures he considers prey. These dogs aren't afraid of big dogs either, they don't seem to know they're small, so keep an eye on them when they're playing as they can be a little aggressive with other dogs. They'll love having a yard to patrol and chase anything that crosses it, from birds to butterflies and more. Children will love Smooth Toy Foxter, they have the same energy level and will play happily together for hours. Smooth Toy Foxter loves retrieving, finding toys or simply running around playing tug-of-war. Afterwards, this little dynamo will climb onto your lap for a nap and a cuddle while he recharges his energy. He adapts well to apartment life, provided he can go for a walk and socialize every day.

Maintenance of the Smooth Toy Foxter
The Smooth Toy Foxter is easy to care for, thanks to its short, dense coat. But it does need brushing two or three times a week to remove loose hair and keep it in tip-top shape. Your dog will appreciate the attention that grooming brings, and as long as you can keep him still long enough, it's a valuable bonding moment. While you're brushing your dog, check for skin wounds or inflamed cuts and sores. These feisty little Terriers can get into all sorts of places because of their inquisitive nature, so it's important to check their health. Ears can become inflamed from debris and wax build-up. Gentle cleaning with a soft, damp cloth will benefit your dog. Check that the eyes are not watering or squinting due to injury. If this is the case, ask your animal health expert to check your dog for damage. Teach these lively pooches to sit still while you brush their teeth, ensuring good oral hygiene, then quickly clip the nails and the Smooth Toy Foxter will run around thanking you.
