| The Pembroke Cocker Corgi is a small hybrid of the American Cocker Spaniel and the Welsh Corgi Pembroke. This breed rarely exceeds 13.5 kilos and measures between 30.5 and 35.5 centimeters in height. They love people and get on well with other pets, but need to be supervised with young children who may not know how to handle a small dog. The Pembroke Cocker Corgi is highly intelligent and a quick learner, but can have a stubborn streak, so you should expect to spend a lot of time training your new dog. It's best to use positive reinforcement but not physical punishment, as this can make your dog aggressive. |

| The Welsh Corgi Pembroke was originally developed in the 1100s in Wales for herding cattle. Their ancestors include the Spitz, Norwegian Elkhound, Chow Chow, Samoyed, Pomeranian, Schipperke and Keeshond. The name Corgi means dwarf dog, which was chosen because they are so small. They were originally used to guard sheep and cattle by nipping their legs, but are now a companion and guard dog. They became popular when King George gave one of these little dogs to his daughters as a gift, and Queen Elizabeth also loved them and had several. The American Kennel Club accepted the Welsh Corgi Pembroke in 1934 and it is the 18th most popular dog breed in America. | ||

| The American Cocker Spaniel actually began life as the English Cocker Spaniel, but was mixed with other breeds to make it smaller. They are known as the smallest member of the sporting dog family and are one of the most popular breeds in the USA. The name Cocker comes from the breed's ability to hunt and retrieve a game bird called the woodcock. The breed originated in the USA in the 1800s for use in hunting and retrieving these birds. There are reports that the original Spaniels arrived in the U.S.A. on the Mayflower in 1620 and were divided into categories that became different breeds depending on size and whether they hunted on land or water. Once their gentle, loving personality became known, they became more popular as pets and the American Kennel Club recognized them in 1878 as the 29th most popular dog breed. | ||

| With large, oval brown eyes and a black nose, the Pembroke Cocker Corgi has an open, friendly expression and looks like he's smiling. They have large triangular ears that stand up most of the time, although some have hanging, hairy ears and a long, hairy tail. Their legs are short and the torso is long like the Welsh Corgi Pembroke, but they can have longer legs and a shorter torso depending on parentage. Their coat is of medium density, straight to slightly wavy, soft and of medium length. The most common colors are black, brown and white, black and brown, brown, white, blue, fawn, cream, sable, brindle, or a combination of any of these. |

| This breed doesn't need too much exercise, but should have at least 45 minutes to an hour of activity a day. This will keep them healthy, prevent boredom and keep them from becoming overweight. However, they love to cuddle with their owner as much as they love to go out and play. It may take a little coercion to get him going, so be sure to plan some of his favorite activities like going for a brisk walk, hiking, playing at the dog park, playing catch or flyball and Frisbee. This breed is also good at agility training and is an incredibly fast runner. |

| Your Pembroke Cocker Corgi will need a thorough brushing every other day or so to prevent tangling. Depending on the density and length of their coat, you should brush them at least five or six times a week with a pin brush and comb. If they tend to shed, you can use a shedding tool, which will reduce the amount of shedding by removing dead fur. Their ears will need to be cleaned at least once every 7 to 10 days, and you should check for wax or mite build-up at that time. |
