The Tang dog is an ancient, medium-sized Chinese breed renowned for its loyalty, guarding abilities, and hunting prowess. It is characterized by a robust build, erect ears, almond-shaped eyes, and a blue-black tongue. Intelligent, easy to train, and adaptable, it requires early socialization and regular training to channel its protective instincts, making it an excellent companion that enjoys physical exercise. Originating in southern China, the Tang dog has long served as a devoted guardian. While sometimes used for hunting and meat, it is primarily valued as a companion and watchdog. The Tang dog has a dense coat, a compact body, and a small size. Its coat is always a solid color, with shades ranging from cream to red to black. Its face is distinguished by a long, broad nose, long, slightly slanted eyes, and a blue-black tongue. The breed is named after the prosperous Tang Dynasty. Tang dogs are loyal, playful, and excellent family companions thanks to their balanced temperament. They are neither timid nor aggressive, but can be courageous protectors when necessary.

They adapt easily to different family situations and can live alone or with other animals if they are socialized from a young age. They need daily exercise, but if they get enough, they are generally calm and easy to live with.
