The I-Twina is a specific variety of Africanis, an ancient dog breed originating in Southern Africa. The original hunting dog of the Xhosa people, it represents a rare living representative of Iron Age dogs. The I-Twina has a slender, light build with relatively large, bat-like ears. It is built for speed and agility. Primarily used as a swift hunting dog, it is capable of detecting movement at long distances. Generally described as intelligent, independent, and adaptable, it can be playful and energetic, making it an excellent companion.

Protective and loyal to its family, it is an easy-care breed with a short coat that requires minimal grooming. Renowned for its hardiness and health, it has developed a natural resistance to local parasites over centuries of natural selection. The I-Twina is the local name for the Africanis, a breed protected by the Kennel Union of Southern Africa (KUSA) to preserve its unique genetic heritage and history. The I-Twina, along with other types of Africanis such as the I-Baku and the I-Nqeqe, is a naturally selected breed of dog that has survived for centuries in harsh environments and is valued for its utility and hardiness rather than its standardized appearance.
