| The Dachshund was developed in Germany in the 15th century. The breed was originally considered the badger dog because of its hunting skills. The breed was known for hunting badgers, wild boar, foxes and deer. In the early 20th century, small Dachshunds even hunted cottontail rabbits. In the 18th and 19th centuries, the Dachshund was modified by German foresters who wanted a fearless dog capable of burrowing into badger areas. The smooth Dachshund was the first type created, followed by the long-haired Dachshunds. The breed is praised for being the only dog recognized by the American Kennel Club that could hunt above and below ground. Its short legs were perfect for digging efficiently in the ground. In the 1800s, the breed was bred to be a companion for the royal courts of Europe. In 1879, a breed standard was developed for the Dachshund. In 1885, the breed was imported to the United States. By the 1950s, the Dachshund had become one of the most popular family dogs in the USA. | ||

| The Lhassa Apso was developed in Tibet and took its name from the holy city of Lhasa. The breed is an ancient one that was considered a symbol of nobility and would protect its homeland. The breed's history dates back to 800 BC, when it was considered a lucky charm. Its talent for guarding temples and monasteries remained a favorable trait for the breed. From 1583 to 1908, the Dalai Lama was known to send the Lhassa Apso as a sacred gift to the Emperor of China. In 1933, the first Lhassa Apso was imported to the USA. In 1935, the AKC officially recognized the breed. | ||

| As there is no breed standard for the Dachsi Apso, this breed can inherit dominant traits from any of its parent breeds. Each Dachsi Apso may resemble the Dachshund or the Lhassa Apso. Generally speaking, the Dachsi Apso is known for having a stiff, hard coat of short to medium length that is water repellent. The breed is scruffy and may need grooming. Its short legs resemble the Dachshund, while its eyes resemble the Lhassa Apso. His curious expression indicates that he wants to know what you're doing. His long, feathered tail hangs high on his back. His chest is spacious like the Dachshund. His voice is very Dachshund-like. His stance is one of alert curiosity. |

Teeth should be brushed regularly to prevent tartar build-up, especially as small dogs are prone to dental problems. |
