A brief presentation of the Olde Pit Bulldogge
The Olde Pit Bulldogge is a cross between the American Pit Bull Terrier and the Olde English Bulldogge. A dog of this hybrid will be medium to large in size, weighing from 18 to 36 kilos, and will be affectionate and loyal to its humans, whom it will seek to please. When given early socialization, which will help it combat any aggressive tendencies, the Olde Pit Bulldogge will do well with children, other dogs and other pets. The hybrid will be fairly active, requiring regular exercise to maintain health and weight. The Olde Pit Bulldogge makes an excellent watchdog.

History of the Olde Pit Bulldogge
The Olde Pit Bulldogge is a relatively new hybrid, although the two breeds that make up the hybrid have a long history.

 

        

A little of the American Pit Bull Terrier

         
The original Bulldog used for hunting wild boar and as a guard can be seen in paintings as early as the 1500s. The dogs in these paintings closely resemble today's Pit Bull. These dogs were called Bull Dogs because of their aptitude for the sport of bull baiting. Once the sport was banned in England in 1835, those promoting it looked for a new way to make money and turned to Terriers and dog fighting. At this time, it is thought that one or more types of Terrier were crossed with the Pit Bull to produce an increased willingness to seek prey as well as increased aggression and agility. This produced the American Pit Bull Terrier, which arrived in the U.S.A. in the 1800s. The dogs worked successfully as hunters and breeders and functioned as guardians and friends.

A little of the Olde English Bulldogge
The Olde English Bulldogge originated in England between 1600 and 1700 and is the ancestor of a number of today's Bulldog breeds. Dogs were bred for courage and agility to take part in blood sports such as bullbaiting, and the Old English Bulldogge participated in the sport until it was banned. The ban on the sport led to a significant decline in the breed, in fact, the breed almost became extinct. Breeders passionate about the breed sought to eliminate some of its aggression and concentrated on crossing the remaining dogs with other breeds to refine its temperament. Today's Olde English Bulldogge is healthier and more active than the breed of the 17th century, and shares genes with the English Bulldog, American Bulldog, American Pit Bull Terrier and Mastiff.

Appearance of the Olde Pit Bulldogge
The Olde Pit Bulldogge is medium to large in size, weighing on average between 18 and 36 kilos and reaching a height of 43 to 56 centimeters. The hybrid will have a strong, powerful body, thick legs and a large head. Its ears are generally small to medium-sized and hang low, and its coat is short and straight. The Old Pit Bulldogge is most often seen in the following colors: cream, chocolate, gray, black, white, brown and a mixture of the above. As both parent breeds tend to be stocky and strong, you can expect your hybrid to have a similar appearance.

Temperament of the Olde Pit Bulldogge
The Olde Pit Bulldogge will want to please its humans, which will make training easier. The hybrid will generally be loyal to its humans and great fun to be around. Early socialization and training will be important to ensure that he behaves well with people and other animals, and doesn't develop behavioral problems such as aggression. The Olde Pit Bulldogge will be very affectionate with humans and visitors with whom it is comfortable, although it has a natural distrust of strangers. The hybrid will generally be alert and courageous, making it a good watchdog. An average amount of energy can be expected from the Hybrid.

Needs and activities of the Olde Pit Bulldogge
There isn't much information on the activity requirements of the Olde Pit Bulldogge, although taking into account the requirements of its parent breeds may help give an idea of the hybrid's needs. The Olde English Bulldogge is robust, with great strength and stamina. More energetic than the Bulldog, it will appreciate a long walk as well as time playing outside in its yard. The American Pit Bull Terrier is very active and will require an hour of physical activity a day. Hybrids need regular exercise to maintain an even temperament and ensure their health. This can include a long walk, a run, a visit to the dog park and playtime. Mental stimulation is also necessary for the Olde Pit Bulldogge.

Maintenance of the Olde Pit Bulldogge
The Olde Pit Bulldogge will be easy to care for, the hybrid's shedding is considered average, which will require daily brushing with a sturdy hairbrush. It's not necessary to bathe your Olde Pit Bulldogge often, only when he needs it. When bathing your dog, we recommend using dog shampoo. The hybrid's ears should be checked for infection once a week and wiped clean. As with all dogs, your Olde Pit Bulldogge's teeth should be brushed several times a week to ensure long-term dental health, and its nails trimmed if necessary.
